The success of his two sisters, Sue and Joanne, in their dental careers and a strong desire to serve the greater public influenced him to eventually leave his career as a financial advisor and pursue dentistry. He returned to the University of Illinois at Springfield to take prerequisite courses for dental school.
In 2011, Dr. Christopher Maurer graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He and his wife, Trisha, purchased the house and property where the office is located that year and began the work of transforming it into a dental office.
In March 2012, he saw his first patients and hired a dental assistant, Donna. Opening this office was his dream come true.
On April 22, 2012, Dr. Maurer suddenly passed away at his home.
From May 2012 until February 2013, Dr. Allison (Buss) Beehner, a very good friend of Dr. Maurer’s and his wife’s from dental school, filled in the gap as dentist, driving from Bloomington to Springfield several times a month to see patients. In February 2013, Dr. Kylea Tibbs-Hnizdo, a friend of Dr. Maurer's from the University of Illinois at Springfield and dental school classmate, joined Maurer Family Dental as a full-time dentist. Dr. Kylea remained as an associate dentist with Maurer Family Dental until 2022.
In January 2018, Dr. Maurer's widow Trisha joined the practice after graduating from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Trisha continues the same level of patient care that Dr. Maurer aimed for.
Dr. Maurer’s legacy is a practice that provides quality dental treatment and works hard to earn your trust by treating you with respect.
